Abdirizak “Zack” Mahboub & his wife, Sarah Gure, founded West Central Interpreting Services, LLC (WCIS) in 2012.  WCIS is a linguistic and cultural training organization that serves healthcare providers, social service and government agencies, and businesses in Willmar.  With a focus on medical, social, legal, and mental health-oriented training, WCIS’s goal is to enhance communications between clients and their cross-cultural customers, including non-English speakers and people with limited English proficiency (LEP).

In addition, WCIS has partnered with Ridgewater College to develop a Medical Interpreting course that teaches the following skills:

  • Medical teminology
  • Culture and delivery of healthcare
  • Interpreting in the primary care setting
  • Emergency situations, grief, death, and dying
